Mayor Pro Tem Mark Bliss is currently serving his 1st term on council after having been elected in November 2013. He is a 3rd generation homeowner and lifelong resident of Madison Heights, who has been active in our community since serving as the inaugural president of the Madison Heights Jaycees youth organization 2 decades ago. Mark is a parishioner at St. Vincent Ferrer parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and has spent 5 years teaching personal finance courses throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit where he helped nearly 200 families learn financial basics.
Professionally Mark is a certified IT Project Manager with a decade of experience in the technology field. He’s currently the Senior Manager of the Software as a Service (SaaS) Division at iDashboards, a Troy based international software company where he’s worked for the past 5 years. This experience in technology led Mark to champion the creation of the city’s Information Technology Advisory Committee where Mark serves as the council delegate. Adopted by council on February 10th 2014, ITAC has helped to shape the cities’ internal technology strategies, and improve the city’s ability to engage the community on the web and across social media.
In addition to serving on the Information Technology Advisory Committee, Mark also serves on the City School Liaison Committee, the Planning Commission, the Multi-Cultural Relations Advisory Board, the Library Advisory Board, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and the Friends of the Madison Heights Youth. In previous years Mark has also served on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Election Commission.
Personally Mark and his wife Allison are proud parents of 3 amazing children who absolutely love “Pure Michigan.” In addition to their vacations “up north” they love visiting local treasures like the Detroit Zoo, Henry Ford Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Greenfield Village, and our very own Red Oaks Nature Center. They are also frequent visitors to the many farms, orchards, and farmers markets in the area.
