Shawn Knight is the Fire Marshal.

Statement of Services:
The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for activities related to fire inspections, fire investigations, plan reviews and public fire education.  Fire inspections are conducted in high priority occupancies as well as prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy for new businesses.  In addition, special inspections are conducted on an as needed basis for fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems and other life safety systems.  The Fire Marshal is a trained fire investigator and he conducts fire investigations as needed on all fires within the City's jurisdiction.  If needed, they can also call on the Oakland County Sheriff Department’s Fire Investigation Unit for additional help.

Public fire education is a priority for the Madison Heights Fire Department.  Every year, MHFD personnel visit each school in the city, bringing the message of fire safety to every pupil from pre-kindergarten through grade five.  Our annual open house activities provide the community with the opportunity to visit the Fire Department and see a variety of displays and live demonstrations.  These include stove and vehicle fires, vehicle extrications with the “Jaws of Life” and other exciting and educational activities.  The Fire Prevention Division also provides fire safety education to our senior citizens, fire extinguisher training to our business community and smoke detectors with installation to low-income and senior residents.
