Madison Heights Public Library Policy & Guidelines for Internet Use

The mission of the Madison Heights Public Library is to provide access to information which meets the educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community.

You must read and agree with the Library Internet Use Policy & Guidelines to access the Internet in the Madison Heights Public Library.

 

Internet workstations are available for information gathering of publicly accessible resources only.  The Library offers filtered Internet access. 

 

Responsibility for information accessed electronically by children rests with their parents or legal guardians.  The library reserves the right to require parent or guardian supervision of their children while using the Internet. ALL forms of chat and interactive gaming are prohibited by city and library policy. 

 

The Madison Heights Public Library has no control over the information resources available on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for the quality, accuracy, or currency of an Internet resource.  Neither the City of Madison Heights, the Library, its director, nor any city employee shall be liable for any direct or indirect damages which accrue from using the Internet or other electronic resources

 

In order to comply with Michigan Public Act 212, unfiltered access is available for adults upon patron request.

 

Computer users will be held responsible for any damage their activities may do to the computer. Parents are responsible for damage done by their children.  Use of the Internet workstations in the Youth Room will be restricted to children or to an adult accompanied by a child.


Library patrons must comply with United States copyright law and all other applicable laws.

 

Patrons will sign-up to use an Internet workstation. Subsequent sessions are available IF no one is waiting. There will be a maximum of 2 hours use allowed per day.  Visitors are restricted to 1 hour per day. No reservations will be taken. Patrons will be accommodated on a first come - first served basis. Patrons will be taken in the order that they sign up.  Visitor passes are available for $1 per hour.

 

ALL pages printed from the Internet will be charged at .15¢ per page.  This fee must be pre-paid.

 

The library reserves the right to limit the number of people using any workstation at one time. Excessive loudness, downloading programs, refusing to limit your Internet use when others are waiting, and not complying with this policy that you have agreed to, are all reasons that the library may revoke your Internet privileges.

 

Internet workstations will shut-down 10 minutes before the library closes.





MADISON HEIGHTS PUBLIC LIBRARY GUIDELINES FOR USE OF PUBLIC INTERNET WORKSTATIONS


Adults must use the workstations in the adult room.  Adults accompanied by children can use workstations in the Juvenile Room.

Children under the age of 16 must use the workstations in the Children's room.  ID may be requested to verify a juvenile's age.

Excessive fines or lost material will prevent the use of the Internet.

A library card user has a limit of 2 one-hour sessions per day or up to 4 30-minute sessions in the Youth Room.

A visitor pass user is available for a fee of $1 per hour.

Please sign in at the Sign-up station on the Circulation Desk to ensure the next available computer.  Please cooperate with the librarians if any problems arise to allow all users to be accommodated.

Please sign out at the end of your session.

Printing is $0.15 per page.  You must prepay at the desk to allow printing.  Pick up your copies at the Front Desk.

Please ask a Librarian if you need help using an Internet workstation or printing.

Please remember when viewing a site that Internet workstations are very visible to others; choose sites accordingly.  Librarians will ask you to exit a site inappropriate for public viewing.

Access to chat rooms and instant messaging is prohibited.

Persons violating these policies may lose Internet access privileges.

THE INTERNET IS AN UNREGULATED MEDIUM THAT IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXERCISE GOOD JUDGMENT AND DISCRETION IN THEIR USE OF IT.
