Statement of Services: The Senior Citizens Division is responsible for hosting a wide range of programs for the City's senior citizens. The Senior Center provides a place for seniors to enjoy their leisure time participating in educational and recreational opportunities. Transportation is provided through the center for recreation, personal business appointments and other activities. A daily lunch program, a yard service program (grass mowing and snow shoveling for financially needy seniors) and human services information and referral are also available. 


The Center has a variety of activities and services! Stop by to find out additional information. There are many activities we're sure there is something for you! 

The services listed below are available for the 55 and better population. Any calls regarding services that are not directly available through the Senior Center are referred to the proper agency.

Senior Center Available for Rent!

The Senior Center Dining Room will be available to rent for Madison Heights residents, businesses, approved civic groups and scout troops.  Applications are now being accepted for rentals that will take place on or after July 1, 2008.

Rental Fees:  $50 per hour (min. 3 hours) for residents and businesses       
                   $25 per hour (min. 3 hours) for civic groups and scout groups
                   Security Deposit for all rentals $200

A variety of day trips and extended trips are available.


Recreational Activities

Recreational activities include golf and bowling leagues, dances, parties, card games, bingo, bunco,sing along, tai chi, computer classes, pool tables, boot camp for the brain and exercise equipment and classes.

 


Federally Funded Lunch Program

Lunch is served daily at 12:00 pm for $3.00 per person 55 years of age and older and $3.50 for persons under 55 years of age.  To reserve lunch at least one day in advance please call (248) 398-0990.  Click here for more information.


Transportation Program

The City of Madison Heights transports senior citizen residents who are age 55 or older and who do not have transportation to the Senior Center, doctor appointments, banks, beauty shops, grocery store, and social services appointments.  There is a charge of  two dollars each way for medical appointments outside Madison Heights and one dollar each way for doctor's appointments within Madison Heights and all other transportation.  For more information, please call (248) 545-3464.

The Nurse is In!

Beginning in September, Wayne State University nursing students are able to take blood pressures and blood sugars when they are availabe. Call the Center at 248-545-3464 to find out dates and times. 


Medical Loan Closet

Wheelchairs, walkers, bedside commodes, shower chairs are available for loan. Call the Center at 248-545-3464 for more information.
Books, Puzzles, Current Magazines

Enjoy current magazines, books, or puzzles at the center or they are available for loan.
Information and Referrals

Calls regarding services not available directly through the Senior Center are referred to the proper agency.
giftideaLOOKING FOR A CREATIVE GIFT IDEA? The Department of Public Services, the Nature Center and the Senior Center all offer gift certificates from $5 - $100. These are great ideas for those who are hard to buy for on your list! Purchase these at each building.  In addition to gift certificates, the DPS and Nature Center have a variety of golf shirts, sweatshirts and t-shirts. Inventory varies.
