Statement of Services
The Fire Department is responsible for the protection of life and property from the ravages of fire. The Department responds to residential, commercial, and industrial fires with specialized equipment designed to meet the needs of the particular fire. In addition, the Department provides Advanced Life Support EMS services and also is able to respond to hazardous materials incidents, confined space rescue, tunnel rescue and trench rescue.EMS
The Fire Department provides advanced life support emergency medical services in cases of sudden illness or injury. Thirty-one licensed paramedics, working under the direction of a base hospital physician, provide quality pre-hospital emergency care with transportation to three area hospitals.
Fire Protection & Prevention
The Fire Prevention Division is involved in the enforcement of State laws and City ordinances that relate to fire protection and prevention. The Division also inspects commercial and industrial buildings, and multiple-unit dwellings for fire code violations. In addition, the Division conducts fire investigations and aids in the fire prevention effort through the development and presentation of public fire education programs.
