Madison Heights residents are invited to sign up for this year’s session of the Citizens Academy beginning in August 2019. The 2019 program of the Academy is scheduled to start August 14th for eight weeks and is offered at no cost to residents. Classes will be held each Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at various City Government facilities. The classes offered will give residents an opportunity to become civically engaged by building positive relationships with city government officials while broadening their education on the city’s daily processes. Through the academy, citizens will get a behind-the-scenes look at city operations, have a chance to give feedback that may help the city improve its commitment to the citizens, and become ambassadors for the city in which they live, work, and play. Each week, different departments of City government are featured. The entire schedule for the academy is listed below. Session 1: August 14 - City Government 101: City History, Leadership and Organization Session 2: August 21 – Keeping Citizens Safe- Police and 43rd District Court Session 3: August 28 - Community Voices and Vision– City Clerk and Library Session 4: September 4 – Planning & Developing the Community – Community Development Session 5: September 11 - Keeping Citizens Safe - Fire Session 6: September 18 - Keeping the City Moving – Public Works/Services (Snow Removal, Parks and Rec, Seniors etc.) Session 7: September 25 - Dollars & Sense - Finance Summary City Forecast, Goals, Budget Session 8: October 2 - Opportunities to Serve (Boards and Commissions) This program is free and open to Madison Heights residents 18 years or older. Certificates will be presented at the conclusion of the program to those participants that complete at least 6 sessions. The Madison Heights Citizens Academy is limited to 25 participants.
