Property & Evidence

Prisoner Property:

Prisoner property can be released to the arrested person or an authorized person with the gold Madison Heights Police Prisoner Property release/waiver form.  If another person is designated to pick up prisoner property, the form must be signed by the arrested person and a witness.  If this form is not available, the arrested person may draft a letter that must be signed and notarized by a notary public authorizing an alternate person to pick up their property.  Prisoner property must be claimed from the Madison Heights Police Department within 60 days of the date of arrest, or it will be subject to disposal according to state law.

Evidence & Other Property:

Property seized as evidence is generally releasable after the case has been adjudicated and the appeal period has past, which is generally 180 days after date of conviction.  Found property or property held for safekeeping may be released during normal property room hours.   Inquiries about evidence or property may be directed to the Property Officer at (248)837-2758.
