John R Road Construction

Starting Spring 2026

Project Scope

John R Road from 11 Mile to Dartmouth (the Soccer Complex)
This is a composite road; an asphalt overlay on top of concrete. We are milling off the existing surface, replacing any bad concrete underneath, and then resurfacing with new asphalt. The section from 10 Mile to 11 Mile also has budgeted funding outside of this project to perform sectional concrete repairs; this is a concrete road.

Timeline

Tentatively planned to start in late April 2026, with road reopened fully in Early August and project cleanup and restoration completed by mid-September 2026.

Traffic

Lanes of travel on John R will be remain open with lane restrictions. Please note this will result in slower travel times, increased traffic and affected adjacent side streets. Please consider this when planning your commute.

Additional Project Information

How is the Project different from the last time this section was repaved?
John R was last repaved thirteen years ago, and we had many good years of pavement; it didn’t fail overnight. At the time, there were funding issues which resulted in a thinner cap being installed on the inner lanes; well within acceptable standards, but not providing the longevity we would have hoped for. This project was funded to fully address all of the failed concrete joints, as well as providing a thicker asphalt overlay in the affected areas.

How is the Project funded?
Approximately 50% of this project is being funded through federal road aid funds, which we successfully applied for several years ago. The City’s share has been phase-funded, or “saved up” in the budget over the last several years.

Other aspects of the Project:
The project will also include necessary ADA upgrades to sidewalk crossings, bus stops, and other right-of-way areas.
