Field Training Unit

The Field Training and Evaluation Program is a nationally recognized law enforcement training program that involves on-the-job training, coaching and performance assessment of new recruit police officers.

The goal of the program is developing those recruit officers into law enforcement professionals capable of delivering solo patrol services in a safe, courteous, efficient and effective manner, and in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Officers Training
All Madison Heights Police Department recruit officers (including those with prior law enforcement experience) are entered into the program, beginning on their first day on the job. The key to our successful program is the competence and dedication of the skilled officers that make up the Field Training Unit. Field Training Officers (FTOs) are selected based on their knowledge, skills and experience. Field Training is used to train new police service aides, recruit police officers and newly promoted sergeants.
