Responsibilities
The Engineering activity falls under the administration of the Department of Public Services. Major responsibilities include the supervision of all engineering services of the City. Engineering is responsible for the development of infrastructure master plans, as well as the design, supervision, and inspection of all public improvements constructed by or for the City. The Engineering Division also reviews and approves all infrastructure for private development in the City.
Engineering, together with the GIS Division, maintains and regularly updates records of City utilities, streets, properties, and rights-of-way. Updating of Engineering records is necessary when changes are made or become available through other City departments.
Information Source
Information is provided to prospective developers, builders, and consulting engineers on the availability, size, and location of all City utilities. Information is also provided to residents and other interested parties on scheduled or future public improvements.
The City Engineer also reviews all planned private development to insure there are no conflicts with the City or public utility infrastructure.
